Who is Ice Puffins For?
Ice Puffins is for girls who can skate independently and are excited to play hockey—whether they’re brand new to the sport or already have some experience. Players will be grouped based on skill level to ensure a fun and supportive environment for everyone.
This is not a high-intensity skill development program. Instead, Ice Puffins is all about fun, creativity, and fostering a love for the game through engaging games, skill-building activities, and hockey play in a low-pressure setting. Our focus is on confidence, friendships, and enjoyment on the ice!
About The Coaches
Each session is run by Coach Kevin, alongside a team of trained helper coaches. We prioritize including female coaches to give girls positive role models on and off the ice.
Coach Kevin has spent over a decade in athletic development. In recent years, that work took a more deliberate turn, diving into child psychology and youth athletic development research to understand what actually helps young players grow. The result is a framework built around two core principles:
Engagement – Creating an environment where kids want to be on the ice
Competence – Building confidence through real success, so players embrace new challenges rather than shy away from them
Sessions include free play time, and throughout, we lean on discovery learning and games-based training to develop skills naturally and keep the love of the game front and centre.
We believe that at this age, the friendships, the confidence, and the habit of being active are just as important as what happens on the ice.
What To Expect
With a "fun first" approach to hockey, we aim to ignite a love for the game while building the kids' self-confidence.
