Youth Girls Rec Hockey

A beginner-friendly league where girls can fall in love with the game—one playful skate at a time.

About the Program

Ice Puffins is a recreational summer hockey program for girls that blends fun, skill development, and game play in an engaging and supportive environment. Our sessions are packed with movement and creativity, combining skating and puck-handling games with small-area hockey to help kids grow in confidence while having a blast.

What makes us different is our "fun first" approach. We use cross-ice games, multiple puck formats, and age-appropriate spaces that promote more touches, quicker decisions, and higher engagement. Our goal is to build competence and confidence while fostering autonomy and connection. Every skater gets a chance to explore, learn, and fall in love with the game.

We also keep our groups small so that every child is seen, supported, and celebrated. Our coaches take the time to get to know each player, creating a true community on the ice where kids feel like they belong.

Frequently Asked Questions

What skill level is required?
Players must be able to skate independently. No hockey experience is required—participants will be grouped based on experience to ensure a fun and fair challenge for everyone.
Will kids play real games?
Yes! We play small-area and modified hockey games designed to develop skills while keeping kids active and excited. It's hockey—just reimagined for fun and development!
What equipment do we need?
Full hockey gear, including a neck guard, is required. Herm’s Sports is a great option for used equipment. Contact us with questions—we’re here to help!
Do you use traditional drills?
Instead of traditional drills, our sessions are centered around games and activities that keep kids smiling, laughing, and having fun from start to finish. Our goal is to create an environment where kids genuinely enjoy their experience, fostering a love for the sport that keeps them excited to return week after week. While we do demonstrate and incorporate basic skills and techniques within these games, much of the learning happens organically through play and experimentation.
